Garden Furniture, Tree seats and Bistro sets

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

The tree seat, or tree bench, is an item of garden furniture which has been around for years. Tree seats come in many shapes and sizes and are constructed from many materials, usually hardwood or metal. The basic idea of a tree seat is to have a garden bench totally circling a tree in the garden. The mass produced tree seats have a limited diameter and would suit a smaller thickness tree. Obviously, there are larger versions available, but these tree seats are usually bespoke and made to order. Tree seats date back to Victorian times when it was quite common to see a metal tree seat, constructed from Cast Iron, around a garden tree. These are not so common now, and the present generation of tree seat is more commonly made of a hardwood such as teak or Keruing. Generally circular in shape, tree seats can adopt a different look, with Hexagonal or Octagonal versions available. Half tree seats are also made, to stand against a flat surface, such as a wall or fence.

One of the main features of a tree seat is that you can sit on the bench and face any direction. Usually a minimum of six seating places are provided, meaning that on this garden bench, you can face the sun, wherever it may be.
